Come along on a summer cruise to listen to interesting stories from Päijänte. We depart on a cruise ship from Kuhmoinen’s marina. In the beginning, we will cruise through beautiful straits, you will admire the idyllic Finnish summer cottages. You can see the osprey nest next to the ship route and usually birds too. After just under an hour of cruising, the back of the breathtakingly beautiful Päijänne opens up in front of you. At this stage of the trip, if the weather permits, you can move to the deck of the ship and experience the Finnish lake scenery at its best.
Päijänne is Finland’s second largest lake, beautiful and clean enough to drink. During the cruise, you will see how the opposite shore disappears into the horizon. The cruise ship has a relaxed atmosphere and passengers often chat with each other.
During the cruise, you will learn general information about Päijänte from the captain’s announcements. On the way, the guests are also entertained by the Portuguese Podengo ship dog Riki, who is everyone’s friend. Riki is a kind and affectionate dog friend who loves crunches.
During the cruise, you will be served by a full-service ship cafe, so you can enjoy small salty pastries and refreshments made from the products of your own garden, as well as drinks. The cruise culminates at Koreakoivu island in the middle of Päijänne. You walk on the island through the forest on a stony path to the hermit’s cabin. You will hear the life story of a hermit who lived on the island, told by Markku Lepistö. In front of the hermit’s small log cabin, you will hear about his life, about a man who left his home for the world at the age of 10, had adventures on his travels, settled down on a small island. You get to experience the authentic atmosphere of the past and think about what life was like on the island from the 1930s to the 1970s. On the island, Pylväläinen developed a fishing lure and taught Lauri Rapala how to make wobblers. As a result, Rapala developed into a multinational and innovative company, one of the best known in its field. Cruise guide Markku knew Lauri Rapala personally and can also tell the true history of Rapala.
On the way to the island, you will enjoy a delicious meal made from local ingredients
