CRUISES FROM PADASJOKI
Cruises to Päijänne National Park from June 25th to August 2nd.

Erakonsaari Cruise on July 6th from 12 pm to 6 pm
(Also from Kuhmoinen on July 13th.)

Join us for a summer cruise to listen to fascinating stories about the hermit of Päijänne. We depart from the Padasjoki harbor, Laivarannantie 41, at 12:00 on the cruise ship.

You’ll experience the authentic atmosphere of bygone days and ponder what life was like on the island from the 1930s to the 1970s. On the island, Pylväläinen developed a fishing lure and taught Lauri Rapala how to make lures. As a result, Rapala became one of the most internationally renowned and innovative companies in its field. The guide for the cruise, Markku, personally knew Lauri Rapala and can genuinely tell you about Rapala’s history.

Päijänne is Finland’s second-largest lake, beautiful and crystal clear. During the cruise, you’ll see the opposite shore disappear into the horizon. The atmosphere on the cruise ship is relaxed, and travelers often chat with each other. Local guide Markku will share interesting stories and details about the surrounding nature and history during the cruise. You can ask the guide about your interests, whether it’s fishing, hunting, or local history.

During the cruise, you’ll learn general information about Päijänne from the captain’s announcements. Also, guests will be entertained by Riki, the Portuguese Podengo ship dog, who is everyone’s friend. Riki is a kind and affectionate dog companion who loves scratches.

The cruise culminates at Koreakoivun Island in the middle of Päijänne. You’ll walk through the forest on rocky paths to the hermit’s cottage. You’ll hear the life story of the hermit who lived on the island as told by Markku Lepistö.

At the hermit’s log cabin, you’ll hear about his life, a man who left home at the age of 10, experienced adventures on his travels, and eventually settled on a small island.

Experience the incredible life story of the hermit who taught Lauri Rapala how to make lures on the cruise. Ponder what’s important in life while listening to the stories of the hermit’s life written by wilderness guide Markku Lepistö in a small cottage in Päijänne National Park. One curiosity on the island is also the tri-border marker of three municipalities.

On the way to the island, you’ll enjoy delicious Päijänne fish soup or vegetable soup made from local ingredients (by reservation only!) and have coffee with the ship’s cook’s berry or fruit pastries from his own garden. The ship has a fully licensed café. On the cruise, you can buy the book “Toivo Pylväläinen Päijänne Hermit” signed by the author as well as local souvenirs. Adults €60, children aged 6–12 €30, children under 6 and over 100 free. Meals are included in the prices. The duration of the trip is approximately 3.5 hours.
